What is a Notary?
A notary, or notary public, is someone appointed by a state government who witnesses and approves the signing of documents, with the intent to prevent fraud. This person witnesses the signing of certain official documents in the presence of the signee(s), and gives a stamp of approval.
Documents that often need notarizing may include the following (but not limited to these):
- Powers of attorney
- Loan documents
- Commercial leases
- Legal affidavits
- Mortgage documents
